Overview

One of the most aggressive ant species in the world. Colonies of millions move in swarms that overwhelm any creature in their path.

Health risks

Swarms can kill livestock, small animals and have caused human deaths. Bites are extremely painful. A major pest in Angola.

Signs of infestation

  • ✓Massive columns of ants moving across ground
  • ✓Columns up to 20 million ants wide
  • ✓Extremely aggressive when disturbed
  • ✓Everything in their path flees or dies

Prevention

  • ✓Monitor ground for ant column activity
  • ✓Keep building entrances sealed
  • ✓Alert neighbours if a swarm is spotted
  • ✓Do not store food at ground level
