Overview

The largest common cockroach species, often found in basements, sewers, and drains. Despite its name it originated in Africa.

Health risks

Spreads bacteria including Salmonella and Staphylococcus. Can trigger asthma and allergic reactions.

Signs of infestation

  • ✓Large reddish-brown cockroaches up to 4cm long
  • ✓Droppings resembling dark coffee grounds
  • ✓Musty unpleasant smell
  • ✓Egg cases near food or water sources

  • ✓Fix leaking pipes immediately
  • ✓Keep drains covered
  • ✓Store food in sealed containers
  • ✓Seal gaps around pipes entering the building
